Lucia's bio

Hello all, I'm Lucia, a third year law student. I grew up in Seattle but hung up my fleece jacket to go East, to Brown, for undergrad. I studied computer science more or less by accident, discovering an affinity for grubbing around in operating systems, the plumbing of computers. Fortunately, one of the companies that needed plumbing was Apple, so I came back west. I found my first gray hair shipping Leopard, another few for Snow Leopard, and a whole handful for iOS 4.0. But I was restless and missed using words. Law school has let me keep one foot in technology and the other in rhetoric, a combination for which I'm grateful.

On whether there can be new stories: of course. If the heart of a story is an encounter between a person and an something outside the person, even if human nature hasn't changed, the world wrapped around us has. Could the experience of following a long-lost friend through her electronic traces, or of dipping a toe into the culture of three continents in three days, have happened even 100 years ago? I think the world is opening up new possibilities for encounter all the time, and new encounters give us new stories.
